PuzzleOne of the great things about taking time to plan, review and tweak is you end up with something that feels more
resonant and reflective of the year you truly want to live. That’s why todays step in the planning process is one of my favorites and one you won’t want to miss.

In Day 14, Move Your Mission Into a Plan, we took each project, goal and win that revealed itself in our vision and moved them into the quarter during which we want to complete it.

When we do this, typically three things happen…

  1. Your first quarter is packed with a ton of stuff to do
  2. You get a sense of the magnitude of what it will take to move the vision into reality
  3. You see projects that are missing from your plan

So today, we are refining your quarterly plan by taking out the “shoulds” and adding in the “woulds.”

Pull out your quarterly planning sheet, and ask the following questions for Q1: What on this list feels more like a “should do” rather than a “want to”?

Here are my shoulds that I am taking out…

  • Establish my YouTube channel (video is not my favorite thing to do so this doesn’t feel fun)
  • Finalize ABM funnel (I fill my high end program with personal connects, I don’t want a funnel)
  • Create a system for speaking gigs (we are managing this fine – no need to add this)
  • Live event in Q3 (I’m not feeling warm, fuzzy and excited about this so it’s off the list)

When I asked what I would do if I could do anything, my additions were all around getting help…

  • I moved finding a Director of Marketing to Q1 because I need the help NOW.
  • I added a Content Manager to Q1 so we re-purpose content and get help with copywriting.
  • I added Securing a Social Media Manager so we rock this avenue of marketing in 2016.

Check that out! With this simple exercise that took only 15 minutes I got rid of what I do not love and added getting more of the help I need.  Imagine the power of doing this on a regular basis.  Sure, it will take time to define these positions, interview and train, but imagine how it will increase our capacity in the quarters that follow.  That’s strategic thinking you can take to the bank. ;0)

Now it’s your turn to review and tweak your quarterly plan from Day 14. What feels more like a “should do” rather than a “want to”? By weeding out the shoulds and adding in the woulds you will create a plan for growth that’s a joy to execute. Click here to see my updated Quarterly Plan for 2016.
